You'll insult him, causing him to pursue you. Run him under the net where he will see the bird. Now use a knife on the net to drop it on him. Take his hat.

Go back to the bird council and tell them that the hunter was cared for. They don't believe you so show them with the hat. Now talk to Veldawich to complete the quest. Benefits: 5,000 Hunter expertise, 5,000 Agility expertise, 2,000 Crafting expertise, 5,000 Building experience, the bird costume and 1 Quest Point.
